Our Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course will help you prepare for the unexpected with a fun, hands-on introduction to wilderness medical care. This course is great for people of all ages and experiences, best-suited for those who recreate outdoors where EMS response is expected in a timely manner (< 8 hours). Students who may benefit from a WFA include those who: take short trips relatively close to help, work at wilderness camps, enjoy weekend family outdoor activities, and/or participate in local outdoor recreation.
Taught by seasoned instructors in a two or two and a half day format, as compared to the more comprehensive 10-day Wilderness First Responder course, most WFA courses are held on a weekend. Emphasis is placed on learning the Patient Assessment System, providing effective first aid treatments for injuries and illnesses common in the out of doors, and making appropriate evacuation decisions.
Learning takes place both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions. Come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot environments. Must be 16 years of age or older. Saturday and Sunday 7:45 AM - 5:00 PM.
