Course Syllabus Includes:

Principles of Behavior Part 1: Reinforcement – 1hr

This course discusses behavioral laws, definitions, basic terminology, and concepts of applied behavior analysis.

 

Principles of Behavior Part 2: Behavior Reduction – 1hr

Key elements in this chapter include an overview of the variables that impact reinforcer effectiveness.

 

Antecedent Interventions – 1.25 hrs

Key elements in this chapter include an in depth presentation of the fundamental components of a behavior intervention plan.

 

Consequence Interventions – 1.5 hrs

Key elements in this chapter begin with a review of the components of behavior intervention plans and the functions of behavior.

 

Functions of Behavior: FBA – 2.25 hrs

This chapter includes when a behavior intervention plan is necessary and the purpose of developing behavior intervention plans.

 

Instructional Control – 1hr

Overview of strategies and procedures proven to increase teaching effectiveness through gaining and maintaining instructional control.

 

Preparing for Crisis Situations – 1hr

This course will provide an overview of preventing crisis behaviors with individuals and how to respond when they do occur.

 

Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders 0.75hr

The chapter provides an overview of the prevalence rates and diagnostic criteria for autism spectrum disorder.

 

Introduction to Asperger's Syndrome 0.75hr

Reviews the diagnosis, characteristics and history of Asperger’s Syndrome as well as available treatment options and various accommodations.

 

Teaching New Behavior – 1.25

Key elements in this chapter include an introduction to various teaching procedures.

 

Naturalistic Teaching Strategies - 0.75hr

Key elements in this chapter include the description of naturalistic teaching strategies (NaTS) and associated history and research.

 

Teaching Requests/Mand Training – 1hr

Key elements in this chapter include the importance of mand training and specific strategies for instruction.

 

Motor Imitation / Mimetic Behavior - 0.5hr

Key elements in this chapter include identification and descriptions of the 4 types of motor imitation.

 

Receptive Language / Listener Responding- 0.5hr

Key elements in this chapter include an overview and explanation of receptive language as it applies to listener responding.

 

Introduction to Verbal Behavior – 1hr

Key elements in this chapter include an introduction to Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior and verbal operants.

 

Teaching Verbal Imitation / Echoics – 0.5hr

Key elements in this chapter include an overview of imitation and its importance.

 

Teaching Expressive Language/Tacts – 1hr

This course provides information on the importance of tacting and specific strategies for instruction, as well as the types and benefits of tacts.

 

Teaching Early Social Skills – 1hr

Provides an introduction to the early social skills including the areas of initiations, social referencing, and joint attention.

 

Intensive Trial Teaching- 0.75 hr

Key elements in this chapter are descriptions of the process for development and implementation of a program to teach verbal behavior.

 

Recording Behavior – 1hr

This chapter provides an overview of indirect and direct data recording methods.

 

Graphing and Progress Evaluation -1hr

Discrete Trial Instruction - Part 1 – 1hr

Discrete Trial Instruction - Part 2 – 1hr

VB-MAPP – 2hr

Functional Programming for Students with Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities 1hr

Cancellations, Transfers, and Refunds

In the event that a course at MSUB Extended Campus does not meet the minimum number of participants, it will be cancelled and participants will be called at least 5 (five) days prior to the start of the course. In the event a course is cancelled, a full refund will be given or the fee can be transferred to pay for a different course.

If you must cancel your registration, you will receive a full refund if it is cancelled 5 (five) business days prior to the starting date of a summer camp.
