The fee for this course is for 2 graduate professional development credits.
The workshop course will provide lectures and discussions with petroleum industry professionals, explaining the various parts of the petroleum business, including regulations, geology, drilling, production, refining and marketing. Participants will also travel on three field trips to observe different types of oil and gas operations. The course will present a comprehensive overview of how oil and natural gas resources are developed and what impacts the industry has on the state and its economy.
The goals are to inform the participants, who are Montana teachers, with descriptions and personal observations so that a more complete understanding of the petroleum industry is achieved, and so that the information can be shared with their students and associates. Reference materials and demonstration kits are provided to assist the participants with preparing lesson plans and compiling the learned information for presentation purposes. Attendees will gain knowledge about important earth science topics and economic development issues to help transfer that knowledge to their classrooms
The course will provide resources to the teachers to help them with accomplishing INTASC Standards 4 and 5, to provide knowledge and means to apply that knowledge.
To receive two (2) graduate credits for the subject workshop course, the following assignments must be completed to the satisfaction of the
instructor:
· Full attendance during all five days of the workshop (June 10 through June 14, 2024)
50 points
· Prepare and submit a one Lesson Plan outline on the third day of the workshop and a second Lesson Plan outline on the fifth day of the workshop, to demonstrate proposed use of workshop information in classroom settings. 25 points
· Prepare and submit a three-page essay by June 24th to describe how the workshop information can best be distributed and shared by the participant with students, fellow teachers, and the community. 25 points
